The equation is simple: 1 studio \u00d7 5 artists \u00d7 11 minutes = STUDIO 55.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WHAT DOES YOUTH SOUND LIKE?<\/strong><br>Open-air Season Opening in the Passage<br>On 12 September 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Loud, angry, melancholic, bored, wild, creative? How do young people respond to an era in which multiple crises cast a shadow over the future? Throughout the 2026\/27 season, Neuk\u00f6llner Oper will provide a platform for young people in a variety of productions and projects, making space for what they have to say\u202f\u2013\u202fand how they choose to say it. The season opens with the first voices of Berlin youth clubs, initiatives, and curious young people in the Passage Neuk\u00f6lln.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VOX HUMANA<\/strong><br><strong>A Singspiel<\/strong><br>From 17 September 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What can the human voice do? It can sing, speak, pray, heal, protest, perform an opera, create a performance, or deliver a pop hit. <strong>Opera Aperta<\/strong>, a collective of Ukrainian artists living and working under the constant threat of Russia\u2019s ongoing war of annihilation, explores these and many other questions in the season-opening production VOX HUMANA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>P\u00d6BELARIEN<\/strong><br>From 26 September 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The music theatre collective <strong>die schlangenknaben<\/strong> invites audiences to crawl into costumes, chew on operatic arias, and burrow through the canon of Western opera\u202f\u2013\u202ffrom <em>Carmen<\/em> to <em>The Magic Flute<\/em> to <em>Tannh\u00e4user<\/em>. They keep what nourishes them. Questions of gender, nationality, and reproduction are reimagined in a contemporary surrealist vision of music theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DARK CHRISTMAS<\/strong><br><strong>A Christmas Concert Series<\/strong><br>From 22 November 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In DARK CHRISTMAS, Neuk\u00f6llner Oper shifts the focus from the birth of Jesus to the deaths of three pop icons who all passed away a decade ago: George Michael, David Bowie, and Prince. Christmas music for everyone who loves the festive season\u202f\u2013\u202for can&#8217;t stand it. Featuring <strong>Mara Snip<\/strong>, <strong>seven_<\/strong>, <strong>Niko Meinhold<\/strong>, <strong>Sarah Taylor Ellis<\/strong>, and the <strong>Naked String Quartet<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1984<\/strong><br><strong>A Musical Inspired by George Orwell<br><\/strong>From 26 November 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>George Orwell\u2019s <em>1984<\/em> is one of the defining classics of dystopian fiction and feels more relevant today than ever before. Emerging composer <strong>Rui Rodriguez<\/strong> and writer <strong>John von D\u00fcffel<\/strong> relocate Orwell\u2019s story and characters to the year 2048 together with the third-year <strong>Musical Theatre students of Berlin University of the Arts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BLUE HOUR<\/strong><br>From 28 January 2027<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf a colour cannot heal, can it at least awaken hope?\u201d asks Maggie Nelson at the beginning of her book <em>Bluets<\/em>. Artists and thinkers such as Goethe, Wittgenstein, and Derek Jarman turned to colour\u2014especially blue\u2014in times of crisis. <strong>Sarah Thom<\/strong>, <strong>Manuela Schinin\u00e0<\/strong>, and <strong>Ariel Efraim Ashbel<\/strong> join young participants from <strong>NO Jung<\/strong> in exploring the sensory power of blue as a way of creating community and imagining a more hopeful future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DARK SCHLAGER<\/strong><br>glanz &amp; krawall&#8217;s Ultimate TV Variety Show<br>From 27 February 2027<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>German Schlager is a melting pot of contradictory desires: nostalgic notions of homeland and folk music collide with profound longings for simplicity, belonging, and romance in an increasingly unstable world. Berlin-based music theatre collective <strong>glanz &amp; krawall<\/strong> dissects this uniquely German pop-cultural phenomenon, which remains widely dismissed as mere entertainment within theatres and opera houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BERLIN OPERA AWARD<\/strong><br>From 16 April 2027<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three emerging composers are given a year to create a 20-minute chamber opera based on Bertolt Brecht&#8217;s <em>Baal<\/em>, mentored by composer <strong>Moritz Eggert<\/strong> and librettist <strong>Bernhard Glocksin<\/strong>. The resulting works will be presented by students of the Hanns Eisler School of Music at Neuk\u00f6llner Oper before the prize is awarded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>METROPOLIS<\/strong><br>On 23, 24 and 25 April 2027<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To mark the centenary of Fritz Lang&#8217;s movie classic <em>Metropolis<\/em>, Neuk\u00f6llner Oper and the (music) theatre collective <strong>Lauratibor<\/strong> invite young people to imagine the future. What will the world look like in 2127? Inspired by <strong>Bj\u00f6rk<\/strong>, <strong>Liesa van der Aa<\/strong> joins <strong>Kat Frankie<\/strong> and the a cappella ensemble <strong>B O D I E S<\/strong> on a musical hunt for basketballs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CRIME OF PASSION<\/strong><br>May 2027<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following a completely sold-out premiere run, CRIME OF PASSION returns to the repertoire. In this music theatre performance, <strong>Anthony H\u00fcseyin<\/strong> investigates femicide on the opera stage, its historical roots, and its continued presence in everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VIEW FROM NOWHERE<\/strong><br>June 2027<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four figures meet on a small blue surreal golf course and are given an impossible task: to define the universal qualities of humanity. Unsurprisingly, they fail. At best, they arrive at a tragic description of who they are\u202f\u2013\u202for who they wish they were. Dutch music theatre duo <strong>Annelinde Bruijs<\/strong> (composition) and <strong>Suze Milius<\/strong> (direction) make their German debut at Neuk\u00f6llner Oper with VIEW FROM NOWHERE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEASON FINALE<\/strong><br><strong>With NO Jung<br><\/strong>June\/July 2027<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The season ends where it began: with a production centred on young people.
