BIG IN NEUKÖLLN

Noise, engines, basslines, sirens. In Neukölln, every day is grand opera.
People who never meant to meet collide on Karl-Marx-Boulevard and in the Passage. Thousands of deaths are being died – and at the same time, life is celebrated in a polyphonic cacophony. But what are the arias, recitatives, choruses, and undertones of Neukölln? The sweaty, meaty thud of a wrestler’s body hitting the mat? The a cappella of an amateur choir? Or the roar of tuned-up engines as cruisers loop around the boulevard?

With their open-air spectacle BIG IN NEUKÖLLN, music theatre group glanz&krawall brings out the voices, songs, and sounds of the Kiez in all their grandeur. Together with Sir Henry on the keys, they transform the Passagenhof into an opera arena.

In the Sunlight Sessions, everyday folks, fringe figures, and night creatures take the mic with their own sounds – and become opera stars. There’s singing, rapping, beatboxing, karaoke machines firing up, and lots of playing and improvising together.
