Internship

The Neuköllner Oper is looking for an intern (m/f/d) in the Directorate, starting as soon as possible.

Located on Karl-Marx-Straße in Berlin, the Neuköllner Oper was founded in 1977 with the aim of freeing music theatre from its elitist confines – through content that speaks to people in the neighborhood and across Berlin, and through music that moves audiences without requiring extensive prior knowledge. Its origins as a grassroots initiative – not founded by a political actor, but by musician and artist Winfried Radeke – continue to shape the company today. Flat hierarchies, humor, humanity, topicality, pop culture, and a spirit of experimentation make NO a unique place not only for audiences, but especially for its staff and the artists who work there.

Internship Description

As an intern in the Directorate, you will gain insight into various areas of a freelance music theatre operation – for example programming, communications, or dramaturgy. You will accompany productions as part of a dramaturgy placement (e.g. TARAB), take part in meetings and overall season planning, and develop your own project over the course of the internship, based on your interests and the theatre’s current needs (e.g. audience research). In addition, you will support the team with organizational tasks related to daily operations (flyer distribution, season brochure mailings, etc.).

Requirements

The internship is aimed at students or trainees who are required to complete a mandatory internship as part of their studies or training, as well as individuals seeking professional orientation or wishing to complete an internship alongside their education. It is particularly suited to advanced students interested in music and theatre, especially in fields such as cultural management, musicology, theatre studies, or similar, who would like to gain early practical insight into the workings of an independent music theatre within a small team.

We expect a high level of commitment, responsibility, teamwork, communication skills, flexibility, and initiative. Good German language skills are desirable. Unfortunately, remuneration is not possible.

Working hours: approx. 30–40 hours/week
Duration: approx. 3 months

We look forward to receiving your application – simply send an email with your cover letter, CV, and certificates combined into a single PDF to:
