DIGITAL SINS #4: LUST & GLUTTONY

EXCURSIONS INTO THE PURGATORY OF SOCIAL MEDIA AT THE MUSEUM FOR COMMUNICATION

On 18 / 19 November 2025 at the Museum for Communication Berlin
Tickets via the MFK website (sales start soon)

Don Giovanni (from Mozart’s world-famous opera) is desperate: what is going on here, in this new, digitally subjugated world? The fires of desire, lust, and gluttony blaze in the distance, and Giovanni’s skills seem useless in the realm of Tinder and Grindr. With this opera hero who has fallen out of time, we approach the broad field of love, longing, addiction, identity, and relationship skills. Unlike Giovanni, today we always have a second, digital self; we are performers like him, but in the endless expanses and abysses of social media, and we must bring our “analog life” into harmony and peace with the possibilities and dangers of the virtual world.
Our final excursion leads from the basement up to the rooms of the APROPOS SEX (and vice versa) exhibition, from Giovanni’s realm of seduction and music to the bright insights of the present, ultimately bringing us together in the atrium to strengthen our resolve for coexistence in connection and communication, in balance and exchange with different desires and identities.

What’s so bad about reaching for your smartphone with its posts, tweets and reels? Reid Hoffman, LinkedIn co-founder, explains: ‘Social networks are most successful when they trigger one of the seven deadly sins’. What? We want to know more about that! With experts, users, music, theatre and an enterprising audience, we’re off into the realm of knowledge. Ahead of us are audio walks, a western showdown with a court hearing and much more.
