After STUDIO 66 last season, STUDIO 55 opens this year: the Neuköllner Oper invites five individual artists and collectives who will appear in various productions during the 2026/27 season to present insights into their working methods in 11-minute miniature formats, offering a preview of the upcoming season 2026/27. The formula is simple: 1 studio × 5 artists × 11 minutes = STUDIO 55.
Most importantly, the artists do not develop these miniature performances alone. For one week, they spend time together at the NKO, working on their respective performances, supporting one another, entering into spontaneous collaborations, and thus creating lines of connection between their artistic practices. The starting point at the beginning of the week is a single “long minute” that each artist brings with them. From this, a roughly 11-minute performance is developed collectively over the course of the week.
While Sanna Vrij and Anne van de Wetering were still participating as artists in the previous edition, this time they take on the direction of STUDIO 55, further developing the Studio XX concept from generation to generation and from season to season. Participating artists include: composer and performer Annelinde Bruijs (VIEW FROM NOWHERE), actress Monika Freiberger (DARK SCHLAGER), singer Anna Lucia Rupp (HUNTER), composer and music producer Manuela Schininà (BLUE HOUR), performer Viola Schmitzer (PÖBELARIEN), composer and musician Sarah Taylor Ellis (DARK CHRISTMAS), and performer Sarah Thom (BLUE HOUR).
